- Analysis of regional seismic activity recorded in Polish hard coal mines in 1995-2020 against the background of geological and mining conditions
Seismological research in the area of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin boils down to the observation of precursors / symptoms and understanding the effects associated with the formation of tremors. On the other hand, the study of complex interactions of the rock mass allowed to determine the conditions of the formation of exploitation and regional tremors. Tectonic and operational stresses, coal mining at depths greater than 1000 m and in the vicinity of fault zones as well as complicated geological and mining conditions may cause the activation of the discontinuity surface as a result of stresses caused by deformation of rock layers. This leads to the appearance of tremors with energies greater than 107 J. Analyzes of high-energy tremors show that over the last 25 years, despite the decrease in production, along with the increase in the depth of exploitation, the number of strong tremors caused by tectonic stresses (107-109 J ) and operational use (≥ 105 J) successively increases.
- Development of a closed water circulation system for the production process on the example of selected technologies implemented at LW "Bogdanka"
In a mining plant, the availability of water of appropriate quality, pressure and temperature is crucial from the point of view of continuity of operation. The article presents selected technical solutions implemented at LW "Bogdanka" S.A., making it possible to adjust the indicated parameters of technological waters to the requirements of equipment operation and to conduct continuous monitoring of their parameters. Actions are also taken to introduce new technologies for maintaining the proper condition of water in the production process. Due to the rapidly declining natural resources, large-scale activities will allow to fit in with the currently desired trends in saving groundwater and limiting the discharge of underground water into the environment.
