• Technological curiosities from around the world
Will turn food waste into food Researchers from the University of California Riverside discovered that fermented food waste can provide a medium for bacteria that support crop growth, support plant resistance to pathogens, and reduce carbon emissions from crops. According to the researchers, the amount of beneficial microbes increased significantly when they added fermented waste to the plant's resource system. When enough good bacteria are present, they form protective compounds and metabolize other microbes, allowing plants to grow faster. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, so the plants were given a fresh dose of waste every time they were watered.
  • Proceedings on the assessment of hunting damage as an administrative procedure
Question: Is the procedure on the assessment of hunting damage referred to in Art. 46-50 of the Hunting Law Act is an administrative procedure in which the provisions of the Code of Administrative Procedure apply.
  • Have we already lost control of the climate and ecosystems?
Recently, research results indicate that a black scenario where we lose control of the climate and ecosystems start falling like dominoes is possible and probably not too far away. A group of prominent climatologists, oceanographers and biologists say that 9 out of 13 "tipping points" for the climate system have already been activated and could trigger a cascade of events that rapidly worsen the Earth's climate. In the high-emission scenario, a sudden collapse of ecosystem functioning is possible in tropical oceans by 2030, it will spread to tropical forests and appear at higher latitudes by 2050.
  • Hazel - a harbinger of the coming spring
I loved your bark, brown with a white bloom, completely hazel color. Those that survive, oaks and ash, rejoice in me, But you made me happy the most, As always magical, with the pearls of your nuts, With the generations of squirrels who danced in you.
  • Civilization excrement
Garbage - a civilization plague, widely despised and often nobody's. According to some, it is supposed to be a measure of national character, wealth and culture. Historically, the first landfills appeared in the Neolithic, some 6,000 years ago, when nomadic people began to settle. Back then, at the beginning, nature dealt with them. A dozen centuries later - it was bad. Spiritual Athenians, immersed in philosophical disputes, did not have comfort. They had to stop their noses and take garbage well beyond the city walls. And it stayed that way. Stanisław Lem - not necessarily only occupied with space - wrote: “In the past, one could count on the fact that the amount of rubbish would remain moderate thanks to the elements of nature, such as rains, storms, rivers and earthquakes.
  • Exchangers for heat recovery from flue gas (recuperators)
Economical management of heat and electricity resources in our country becomes a necessity, obligation and obligation. Huge amounts of heat, unused as a by-product of the combustion process in the form of flue gases, are lost by the users of all boilers, stoves, fireplaces and other heating devices in which the combustion process takes place.
  • Court judgment of 11 June 2020 on the protection of wolves in Romania, C-88/19
  • Converted
Many energy companies are realizing that the era of fossil fuels is almost over. These fuels are subject to depletion, but - above all - they will be less and less willingly bought by people who will pay attention to their emissions. So the fact that certain companies are withdrawing from the fossil fuel market and investing in renewables does not have to be caused by a change in the mindset of their bosses; it may simply result from a sober assessment of reality and identifying a market niche in which the company has a chance to prosper
  • Natural conditions in Poland in the light of statistical data
As announced, we present subsequent chapters of the statistical year of the Central Statistical Office of Poland entitled "Environmental Protection". Chapter I is entitled "Natural Conditions". The previous opinion on reducing the volume of the yearbook is confirmed already in the publication from 2018. Well, in the yearbook of 2017, this chapter was 20 pages long and contained 18 points (tables), i.e. types of information, while in 2018-2020 this chapter has 19 pages smaller format and only includes 5 points (starting from page 13), including only 9 tables. The area and geographic location of the country does not change, but compared to the data from before 2006, the land area and the area of internal sea waters and territorial sea changed slightly due to the application of the latest measurement methods by the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography and due to changes in the coastline to the result of erosion of the Baltic coast and the banks of border rivers.
  • Pig slurry - a valuable substrate for the production of agricultural biogas
The conditions of anaerobic fermentation in a bioreactor were analyzed. The required technical and technological criteria for biogas production were indicated. The methods and techniques used in the immobilization of methanogenic microorganisms were reviewed. The article deals with the adaptation of pig slurry. The aspects of the mesophilic fermentation process for the developed and operated agricultural biogas production system using an adhesive bed placed inside the fermentor were also indicated.
  • How to start building an agricultural biogas plant - selection of elements
The EU climate and energy policy assumes that by 2030, energy from renewable sources will have a 32% share in total energy consumption. The dynamic development of investments in agricultural biogas plants, and thus in the production of biogas, will largely contribute to the implementation of these assumptions. They allow for the production of energy and allow the utilization of plant, animal and post-production waste during methane fermentation. It is a complex biochemical process that can be properly stimulated by selecting the appropriate temperature, substrates, fermenter size, etc. Moreover, in addition to biogas, after methane fermentation, we obtain a full-value fertilizer.
  • Succession of administrative fines adjudicated on the basis of the Environmental Protection Law and related acts
The subject of this study is to discuss the issue of succession of administrative fines as a result of the transformation of the entity for which such a fine was imposed, as well as as a result of the acquisition of an enterprise run by the defendant. In terms of civil and commercial law, the issue of the succession of rights and obligations is described in detail and numerous studies on the part of the doctrine and jurisprudence have been published. The problem of administrative succession of financial penalties is still a discussed and present issue in the current jurisprudence of the Supreme Administrative Court. The jurisprudence assumes that administrative pecuniary penalties as a reaction to a tort consisting in non-application of administrative law or its incorrect application are repressive and preventive in nature.
  • The EC's actions to implement the circular economy
on January 27 this year. The Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) has prepared a report on the EU action plan for the circular economy (circular economy), which was adopted in March last year. In the document, MEPs stressed that the current take-use-throw economy must be transformed into a truly circular economy, based on the prevention of waste and reduction of energy consumption.
